Carver René Descartes (voiced by Phil LaMarr) is the self-proclaimed "cool guy" of the group. He is an African American and has a strong interest in clothes and fashion (particularly shoes, wanting to be a shoe designer).[1]

Although he appreciates spending time with his friends, Carver desperately wants to be one of the cool kids and, ultimately, to become a celebrity.

Personality[]

He is shown to be somewhat self-centered and can be immensely shallow and superficial: he once rejected a girl just because she was too tall. Thus the more touching moments of the show are when he is altruistic and battles his own insecurity.

Phil LaMarr stressed in a press kit that Carver was not a bad kid, just the most likely of the group to make mistakes.[2] Doug Langdale elaborated that because Carver's parents are so busy on keeping up appearances, Carver often relies on his friends for help as a consequence.[2]

Carver worships the cool kids, Bree and Colby, wanting desperately to be as popular as they are. He is shown to have a shrine of them in his bedroom ("Uncool World"). He used to be part of their friend group in "Shoes of Destiny," but left after they made fun of Carver's friends.

One of the many recurring jokes about Carver is that he secretly owns and tries on women's clothing. However, he usually (albeit nervously) responds that the clothing is his sister's. The earliest occurrence for jokes along these lines are Carver wondering how he'd look in a kilt in the season 2 episode "To Each His Own." Tino mentions in "Testing Dixon" that Carver has a large appetite, eating a gallon of ice cream and an entire pie all in one sitting, something that aggravates his father.

Carver also has a younger brother named Todd, a toddler stuck in his terrible twos, who occasionally torments Carver and, by extension, his friends. He sometimes goes to his older sister, Penny, for advice, but she frequently disregards his questions. He has a close relationship with his father, as they call each other "Big D" (for Descartes) and "Big C" ("The Perfect Son"). The family also own a dog named Princess. Carver's head is often compared to a pineapple for humorous effect. Carver's family (except his dad, also voiced by LaMarr) are all voiced by Cree Summer.

Similar to Lor, Carver appears to be apathetic when it comes to schoolwork. He is noted for his horrible handwriting, which often leads to people reading words much different from his intentions. This poor penmanship resulted in Chum Bukkit performing his notes as a song in "Band." Carver notes his writing has improved in "Tish's Hair," as Tish read all but one of his words without difficulty. Later, in "Never Say Diorama," Tino and Tish state he and Lor often procrastinate on homework and have to rely on the former two to do the work for them, although they accomplish doing their own work and receive a B- at the end of the episode.

Clothes[]

All of Carver's outfits consist of an open button down shirt, t-shirt, pants, and sneakers, of various colors.

He is most frequently seen wearing the color yellow.

  • Standard Outfit - white t-shirt, yellow button down shirt, gray pants, gray sneakers.
  • Abnormal Outfit - yellow pajamas when he goes to sleep
